Starspangledbanner Juvenile Earns Stakes Target
Spicy Marg (2f Starspangledbanner – Main Desire, by High Chaparral) emerged as an exciting prospect when producing a smart debut performance at Newmarket on Sunday.
Racing over five furlongs in the £40,000 fillies’ novice stakes, Michael Bell’s newcomer was positioned in third by Kieran Shoemark and was asked to quicken from two furlongs out. The bay produced a smart turn of foot entering the final furlong and led soon after, running on to beat the even-money favourite by two and a quarter lengths.
“She did a nice piece of work ten days ago when she quickened up very nicely, so we were hopeful coming here today,” the winning trainer later revealed. “I trained her dam and when I saw this filly at the sales I was never going to be beaten in buying her. She’ll go for the Marygate next.”
The Starspangledbanner filly is owned by Elb Bloodstock and was bred by Branton Court Stud.
