Starspangledbanner Filly Stays Perfect In Anglesey Stakes
Coolmore sires dominated Saturday’s Group 3 Anglesey Stakes in which Suzie Songs (2f Starspangledbanner – Florence Camille, by Galileo) made it two from two for Ger Lyons and owner/breeder Moyglare Stud Farm.
The Starspangledbanner filly made a winning debut in Cork 15 days prior and was sent off second favourite under Colin Keane. Tracking the leader closelt for much of the way, she was pushed along from two furlongs out and ridden entering the final furlong. She ran on well to assert inside the final 110 yards and kept on to beat Flushing Meadows (Wootton Bassett) by a short head, as the pair rallied three and a quarter lengths clear of Stop The Nation (Sioux Nation) in third.
“It was a last minute decision to run Suzie Songs but the beautiful thing about training for Moyglare is that you are allowed to do that,” Lyons later explained. “We will give her a wee break and return for the Moyglare. It is a race I would love to put on my CV.”
Suzie Songs becomes Starspangledbanner’s second Group-winning juvenile of the season following Gstaad’s impressive Coventry Stakes victory, while two-year-old filly Secret Hideaway (Starspangledbanner) gained a Listed win last month.
