Starspangledbanner Juvenile Hits The Right Notes On Debut
Suzie Songs (2f Starspangledbanner – Florence Camille, by Galileo) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut at Cork on Friday.
The Ger Lyons-trained newcomer was well-supported ahead of the six-furlong fillies maiden and raced in midfield under Colin Keane. Making headway from two furlongs out, she improved into second before the final furlong and ran on well under Keane’s urgings to lead close home. She beat a more experienced rival by a neck, with the pair drawing five and a half lengths clear of the remainder.
“She has been a queen,” Lyons commented. “She is a lovely filly and did today what we had seen at home. There should be plenty of improvement in her and, as with her pedigree, she wants seven furlongs.”
Owned and bred by Moyglare Stud Farm, the daughter of Starspangledbanner is out of a full-sister to Cheshire Oaks heroine Thoughts Of June (Galileo).
