Brosna Queen (getaway) Wins The Mares Bumper At Punchestown

Black-Type Target For Bumper Winner By Getaway

Brosna Queen (5m Getaway – Gambling Girl, by Hawk Wing) took a step forward on her second start to win Sunday's mares’ bumper at Punchestown.

The Sonny Carey-trained bay finished fifth of 20 on debut at the Punchestown Festival and was well-supported on Sunday, with Patrick Mullins aboard. Settled in midfield, she began to improve from three furlongs out and was ridden after the two-furlong pole. Asserting inside the final furlong, she kept on to beat previous winner Atomic Queen (Flemensfirth) by a length and a quarter.

“I think she’s a good filly and she’s still green,” said Sonny Carey. “We might give her a break and bring her back for the Mucklemeg (at Gowran) or Cheltenham in November. We’ll try and get some black-type with her as she has a very nice pedigree.”

Carey purchased Brosna Queen at the Goffs Arkle Sale for €80,000 and the Getaway mare now carries the colours of Tony Kilduff. Bred by Alex Frost & Edward Galvin, she is a full-sister to dual Listed winner and Grade 3 second Queens Gamble (Getaway).
