Classic Getaway (Getaway) Lands The Grade 2 Red Mills Chase

Classic Getaway Leaps To Grade 2 Glory

Saturday saw Classic Getaway (9g Getaway – Classic Magic, by Classic Cliche) produce a fine round of jumping to land the Grade 2 Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park.

A course and distance winner on his chasing debut two seasons ago, Willie Mullins’ charge had placed on his first two starts in graded chases this term under Saturday’s rider Danny Mullins. Tracking his rivals for much of the way, the Getaway gelding took closer order from three out and led at the second last. Drawing clear approaching the final fence, he was ridden out to score by six lengths, with another 13 lengths back to the third.

“It was a good performance and Classic Getaway has been improving all season,” the winning trainer later commented. “Danny [Mullins] was keen to stress that the three fences in the straight made a big difference as his jumping brought him into the race without any effort and he had that final kick. It's nice for Cheveley Park to have a Red Mills winner.”

Saturday marked a second black-type win over fences for Classic Getaway, who first demonstrated his talents when impressing in a four-year-old maiden for Donnchadh Doyle. Subsequently sold for £570,000, the son of Getaway remains the best performer bred by Daniel Fogarty out of Classic Magic.

Grange Stud sire Getaway is enjoying a fruitful period, led by Handstands’ Grade 1 win in the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase and Docickedme’s valuable victory in the £100,000 Great Yorkshire Chase.
