Impressive Newcomer Completes Double For Order Of St George
Dani Donadoni (5g Order Of St George – Dani Salamanca, by Presenting) completed a double for his sire at Limerick on Tuesday when drawing clear in the bumper.
Willie Mullins’ newcomer was sent off a short-priced favourite under Patrick Mullins and tracked the leader for much of the two-mile-and-three-furlong contest. Improving to lead after the two-furlong pole, the bay was ridden clear a furlong later and ran on well to score by seven lengths.
“Once he caught his second wind, he has flown,” the winning rider reported. “With the experience under his belt there could be a lot of improvement. It is great for his owner/breeder Kevin McCarthy who has had horses with us for decades, going back to Dani California who won an Irish Cesarewitch.”
A half-brother to useful hurdler Beat The Bat (Walk In The Park), the promising five-year-old hails from the first crop of Order Of St George.
Earlier on the card, Silent Selector (5g Order Of St George – Coolsilver, by Good Thyne) broke his maiden over hurdles for Gerard O’Leary.
Ridden prominently by Sean Flanagan, the bay raced jumped well throughout and asserted with four to jump. Clear approaching the final flight, he dug deep when asked to repel a late challenge by three parts of a length, with five lengths back to the favourite in third.
The winning trainer commented: “I thought he'd run better the last day so that was a bit of a surprise although his work had been very good. He'll go for something similar next.”
Owned by the Lads & Eoin Syndicate, Silent Selector was bred by Colette O’Driscoll.
