Impressive Pair Complete Double For Order Of St George
George’s Lad (5g Order Of St George – Undecided Hall, by Saddlers’ Hall) ran out an impressive winner of Friday’s maiden hurdle at Doncaster, completing the first leg of a double for Order Of St George.
The Emma Lavelle-trained bay had finished second on his two previous starts and a step up in trip seemed to do just the trick for her charge on Friday. He was sent off favourite under Harry Cobden and caught the eye two out, by how well he was travelling behind the leaders. Cobden released the brakes at the final flight and his mount duly obliged, winning by a canter.
“He's just got better and stronger from run to run,” the winning trainer said. We thought he wanted a step up in trip and they didn't go quick so he was a little bit keen. He was already qualified [for the £80,000 EBF Final] but the reason he came here was that off 115 he wouldn't be guaranteed to get in. I wanted to make sure of it. The Final is what we've been aiming for.”
George’s Lad joined Lavelle from the Denis Hogan yard following his promising debut in a four-year-old maiden, when he fell when leading at the last. Now owned by Andy and the Frisky Fillies, the first crop son of Order Of St George was bred by Grove View Stud Ltd.
The Neil King owned and trained Storming George (5g Order Of St George – Nickel, by Presenting) was similarly impressive in the bumper under Jack Quinlan.
The newcomer was pushed along behind a wall of horses from two furlongs out, any potential gap soon closing, but once he was in the clear, he stayed on strongly to score by three and a half lengths.
Bred by Neville Reid, Storming George also hails from the first crop of Castlehyde Stud sire Order Of St George.
