Improving Getaway Gelding Draws Clear In Maiden Hurdle

A step up in trip saw Tommy The Tank (7g Getaway – North Star Poly, by Presenting) get off the mark in impressive fashion at Hereford on Wednesday.

The Getaway gelding joined Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole after winning his sole start for Max Young, and made a promising rules debut when finishing second in a maiden hurdle. He was runner-up on the next attempt, a run which was boosted when the winner followed up earlier this month.

The bay was sent off favourite for Wednesday’s maiden hurdle over three miles and one furlong, and made all of the running under Charlie Hammond. Pushed clear after the second last, he needed little encouragement to lead by 13 lengths on the line.
