Order Of St George Gelding Impresses With Debut Rules Win

Skerry Hill (4g Order Of St George - Angel Lopez, by Flemensfirth) impressed on his first racecourse appearance with a smooth victory in the bumper at Down Royal on Friday.

The Order Of St George gelding had won his sole point-to-point by eight lengths at Farmaclaffley in February before selling to Aidan O'Ryan and Gordon Elliott for £205,000 at the Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale in March.

Skerry Hill was ridden by Harry Swan and the odds-on favourite led from the off, striding clear to post a three-and-a-quarter-length win.

Elliott said: said: "He's a lovely horse. He's a baby, very green, but he's a lovely horse and we like him.

"You probably won't see much more of him this year. He's a big chaser and that's the type of horse Ronnie [Bartlett] buys."

The four-year-old was bred by Liam Queally.
