Smart Novice Hurdler Continues Successful Weekend For Getaway
Tripoli Flyer (6g Getaway – Collen Beag, by Mountain High) produced another impressive display to win the Scottish Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Musselburgh on Sunday.
Runner-up in a Grade 2 bumper last season, Fergal O’Brien’s charge was last seen in November, when bolting up by 29 lengths in a novice hurdle. That effort saw him sent off a short-priced favourite for the Class 2 contest and he raced prominently throughout under Jonathan Burke. Making smooth headway to lead at the second last, he soon drew clear and led by 11 lengths on the line.
The performance saw Tripoli Flyer shortened to 25/1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham. The exciting son of Getaway was bred by JA Slattery and is owned by Ismail El Magdoub, who bought his Maxios half-brother in December. Tripoli Flyer’s full-brother sold for €105,000 at last year’s Goffs Arkle Sale.
Insurrection (Getaway) completed a quickfire double for their sire when landing the very next race on the card in impressive fashion. The Paul Nicholls-trained chaser bolted up by 16 lengths under Harry Cobden in the colours of the Noel Fehily Racing Syndicate. The Tommy Newton-bred bay was won or placed on nine of his 10 starts under rules.
Grange Stud sire Getaway had celebrated a new Grade 1 winner the previous day, when Handstands landed the Scilly Isles Novices Chase (read more here). He was also responsible for another impressive winner between the flags, with An Buachaill Rua (5g Getaway – Out Of Africa, by King’s Theatre) drawing clear in the five-year-old geldings maiden at Dungarvan point-to-point.
Robert Tector’s charge had been running a promising race when unseating at Lisronagh last time out and raced eight rivals on return to action. Settled in midfield by Jack Hendrick, the chesnut began to make headway from three out and led before the next. He gradually extended his advantage to lead by 15 lengths on the line, as Boise Idaho (Idaho) finished best of the remainder.
Bred by Maria Kavanagh and owned by his trainer, An Buachaill Rua will now be sold.
