Hay Meadow (Wings Of Eagles) Ayr Novice Hurdle

Wings Of Eagles Mare Beats Smart Rival In Good Style

A change in tactics saw Hay Meadow (5m Wings Of Eagles – Give Us A Look, by Grand Plaisir) got off the mark over hurdles, adding to previous wins in a bumper and between the flags.

The Lucinda Russell-trained mare was ridden to make all by Derek Fox in the mares’ novices hurdle at Ayr on Friday, and though headed at the third last, regained the advantage before the final flight. Ridden out on the run-in, she kept on well to beat the short-priced favourite – a Grade 2 performer - by four and a quarter lengths. The front pair finished clear of the remainder.

Hay Meadow was bred by William Codd, who trained the bay to win a four-year-old mares maiden at Ballyragget, before selling her to current connections. Subsequently successful on rules debut, she hails from the smart first Irish crop by Wings Of Eagles.
