Wings Of Eagles Mare Gets Off The Mark At Dromahane
Somersby Roost (5m Wings Of Eagles – Travrega Bay, by Oscar) and Jimmy O’Rourke overcame a slipped saddler to land Sunday’s mares’ maiden for five-year-olds and upwards at Dromahane.
The Pat O-Rourke-trained mare finished a promising second at Belcare last month and faced 12 rivals on her latest start. The Phyllis O’Rourke-owned bay chased the leaders for much of the way and was ridden from three out. Leading from the next, she ran on well on the run-in to beat One Day In May (Idaho) by two and a half lengths, with Please Proceed (Vadamos) a head further back in third.
Bred by Thomas Farren, Somersby Roost hails from the first Irish crop of Wings Of Eagles.
