$350,000 Colt For Practical Joke at OBS June

A Practical Joke colt bred by Newtownanner Stud was the fifth most expensive offering of this week’s OBS June 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale when he brought $350,000 from Donato Lanni for Frank Fletcher.

Consigned by De Meric Sales and breezing in :9.4, the colt is a three-quarter brother to four-time winner Midnight Pranks among Midnight Girl’s two winners from two to race. Unraced herself, Midnight Girl is a half-sister to the dual Grade 1 winner Midnight Lucky and the stakes placed Songofthecity.

Their dam Citiview is a full sister to Grade I winner Hookedonthefeelin, who produced Grade 1 winners Pussycat Doll and Jimmy Creed from her four stakes performers. In all, this colt’s page has eight stakes winners and four other stakes placers with five Grade I winners.

Practical Joke is second only to his sire by number of stakes winners and stakes performers in 2025 with 11 and 25, respectively.
