
$500,000 Yearling for Jack Christopher at Keeneland September
Katsumi Yoshida led the charge for Jack Christopher yearlings during the first two books of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale when purchasing a colt out of Pathos for $500,000.
Offered by Ledgelands, who bred him with Andrew Ritter, the colt is a half-brother to two winners from two to race out of his dam with the duo led by four-time winner Xy Time. Pathos is a two-time winner out of stakes winner Mighty Eros, who is also the dam of Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Faypien among her five winners overall.
This is a strong family with stakes winners under each of Pathos’ first four dams and the group also producing multiple stakes performers with 10 stakes performers produced by sisters of the dams on the page and 17 stakes performers overall.
Klaravich Stables went to $375,000 to secure a filly out of Ms Locust Point from breeder Clearsky Farms.
Ms Locust Point was a Grade II winner on the track, registering nine wins overall and has produced one winner from two to race. The Dialed In mare is a half-sister to Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Warrant among the five winners out of Whisper Number. There is new stakes form on the page with Whisper Number’s half-sister Speightful Affair the dam of Albany Stakes winner Iron Dome.
Speightful Affair also produced 17-time winner – including multiple stakes victories – Mr. Buff among her four stakes performers with Mr. Buff’s full sister the dam of stakes winning Mischief Lady.
Steve Young signed the ticket on a $350,000 colt out of Blue Gallina offered by Woods Edge Farm.
Bred by Wynnstay and Allen Poindexter, the colt’s dam produced Grade II winner Can Group, Grade III winner Flat Out Speed, and stakes placed Bonnieview. Can Group added an update with a victory after the catalog was released, but the biggest update came from Flat Out Speed as a broodmare. That mare’s daughter Flat Out Time finished third in the Grade III Prioress Stakes to become the 10th stakes performer on the page. The names listed on this colt’s page include Grade I winner Victory Speech and four other stakes winners.
Repole Stable was eager to purchase a half-brother to his Grade I winner Mindframe and went to $350,000 to secure the colt from Betz Thoroughbreds.
A Virginia-bred from Larry Johnson’s breeding program, he is also a half-brother to Andy Guest Stakes winner Hollywood Walk and two other winners out of the stakes winning Walk of Stars. Walk of Stars is a fourth-generation stakes producer with her dam’s other stakes performers including stakes winner and multiple Grade II-placed Strike The Moon and the stakes placed What Time It Is and Listentothewindblo. What Time It’s Munnings’ daughter is the dual stakes winner Never Enough Time, a runner closely related to this colt.
This family also includes multiple Grade II winner Future Is Now, who won both the Grade III Caress Stakes and Smart And Fancy Stakes this summer. In all, there are 17 stakes winners under this colt’s first four dams with 16 other stakes performers.
Jack Christopher’s yearlings also sold for $310,000, $240,000, $190,000, etc. with an average of $231,429 for 14 sold. He is the sire of 91 more yearlings to sell in the next three books.
