Corniche and Epicenter Set For Fasig-Tipton February

Wrapping up the breeding stock sales season is next week’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale where three short yearlings by champion Epicenter and one by champion Corniche are set to go through the ring.

Buyers will have to wait about 200 hips to get their chance to buy the first Epicenter with Baldwin Bloodstock offering Hip 209.

That Eaton and Thorne homebred bred in New York is a half-brother to Mendelssohn’s multiple stakes placed Awesome Ruta. Their Awesome Again dam Awesome Prayer is out of Grade I winner Malibu Prayer, who is also the granddam of stakes winner Cros Parantoux. Malibu Prayer is one of three stakes performers out of the stakes winning Grand Prayer, who is also the dam of Grade II winner and Grade I placed Valid and Grade III placed Grand Love. Her unraced daughter Bella Carina is also the dam of Grade III winner Delahaye.

This page is full of blacktype with Grade I winner Swagger Jack and champion Silverside among the 11 stakes winners named only under fourth dam Lyrical Prayer.

Coming into the ring with an update after his 3-year-old half-sister was placed this year is Hip 316 from the Paramount Sales consignment.

They are out of four-time winning Broken Vow mare Gran Letizia, a daughter of Grade III placed Mommie Whiz. Each of Gran Letizia’s first eight dams have produced stakes performers or been stakes performers themselves with seven producing at least one stakes performer.

Among those named on the page are Grade I placed Sneaky Quiet, Fame, and Colosseo with five of the 11 winning at least one stakes race.

The last through the ring is Hip 346, a filly offered by Mulholland Springs and bred by Equiventures East.

The filly is a half-sister to two winners from two to race out of the Mizzen Mast mare Juliamarie. That mare is full sister to the multiple stakes placed Francisca and a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner and Grade I-placed Willcox Inn. There are 11 stakes winners under her third dam with that group including Grade I winners Ceteway and Dynaforce among others.

Corniche’s sole offering is Hip 358 offered by breeder Bluewater Sales, a New York-bred filly out of Chaotic Cat.

A two-time winner herself, Chaotic Cat is the dam of Grade III winner and Grade II placed Chaos Theory among her three winners. She is also a half-sister to Grade I placed Sweet Shirley Mae and Grade III placed I Remember Mama with Sweety Shirley Mae producing No Nay Never’s stakes winner Mae Never No.

Seeing stakes performers under each of her first five dams, this filly’s fourth dam is the Grade I winner Colonial Waters, who has three stakes producing daughters as well.

The one-session Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Winter Mixed Sale takes place on Monday, February 3 starting at 10am.
