Winged One Australia Newcastle

Promising Daughter Of Australia Collects First Win

Winged One (2f Australia - Angel Terrace, by Ghostzapper) looked a smart prospect when getting off the mark on her second start at Newcastle on Tuesday.

Ridden by P J McDonald, the Andrew Balding-trained filly was settled in rear and made headway from two furlongs out. She took up the lead a furlong from home to win by a comfortable three-and-a-half lengths.

The George Strawbridge homebred is another promising juvenile for Australia, following on from Shosholoza and Illy's Roo earlier this month.

Australia's excellent year has been led by dual Derby hero Lambourn and Group 1 Coronation Stakes heroine Cercene.
