Son Of Australia Off The Mark With Easy Score
Illy's Roo (2g Australia - Illykato, by Toronado) got off the mark at the second attempt with a three-length win at Salisbury on Thursday.
The Jack Channon-trained two-year-old was positioned midfield under Tom Marquand and stayed on to make headway three furlongs out. Illy's Roo duly took up the lead a furlong from home and powered home for a clear-cut victory.
A homebred for Christopher Hirst, Illy's Roo looks another promising performer for Australia, whose banner year has been led by dual Derby hero Lambourn and Coronation Stakes heroine Cercene.
Another high-class performer, Group 3 Salsabil Stakes winner and Irish Oaks runner-up Wemightakedlongway, is entered for the Group 1 Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp on Sunday.
